Our Rehabilitation Residents Should Know

Accommodation

Patients have the option of having a private room or a shared room. Shared rooms have no more than 2 patients per room. All our rooms have private bathrooms. It is important to know that the rates vary between private and shared.

Communication

A basic understanding of the English Language is required as all treatment programs are conducted in English. A program of individual counselling along with group sessions, rest and relaxation is a vital part of your program.

House Rules

You’re expected to comply with the House Rules and Guidelines.

Maintain your Sobriety

You must maintain your sobriety. You will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing. Relapse is grounds for an immediate discharge. T&C are applied.

Conduct Yourself

You must conduct yourself in a manner conducive to and consistent with recovery.

Contribute to the Household

You’ll need to do chores while staying at Serenity House. You’ll also be responsible for cooking, cleaning your personal living space and maintain good hygiene at all times.

Keep Curfew

Curfews must be adhered to, with a nightly check-in.

Find Purpose

You’ll be encouraged to find work or continue working, engage in further studies or community service while staying at Serenity House.

Attend Meetings

You must attend a minimum of three 12-step fellowship meetings a week.

Develop a Relationship

You must develop a relationship with a sponsor before departing Serenity House.

Attend House Meeting Dinners

Sunday braai’s (SA BBQ) are compulsory. These communal gatherings allow residents to share what they did for their recover, how their past week went overall and set goals. Rules are reinforced and any roommate issues are remedied.

Schedule your own free time

You are accountable for how you schedule your free time and for your whereabouts when off the Serenity House property.

Each Rehabilitation Resident will Receive

A specific support worker who will arrange one-to-one support sessions with your councillor or psychologist where necessary. Serenity House staff are available 24/7 as needed.

An admissions agreement, which sets out our obligations and your responsibilities with regards to the support and accommodation offered in detail.

Daily Mon - Fri “A Quiet Peace” or “JFT” reading and reflection sessions (08:30)

Weekly groups are scheduled (process, goal setting, step work, relapse prevention, CBT, DBT, community, etc).

One weekly session with our in-house psychologist

An individualised recovery plan that is reviewed bi-weekly, when your needs significantly change or as requested with your input.

Housekeeping, which includes bed linen changes, laundry and cleaning of communal areas is provided by Serenity House, although all community members have to also maintain the ethos of keeping communal areas in a respectable and conducive way for all.

Privacy; however, random drug and alcohol testing and supervised spot checks of your room are carried out from time to time.

Regular activities such as yoga, group therapy, and outdoor excursions encourage connection, personal growth, and a balanced recovery experience. These shared experiences help residents build supportive relationships and develop healthy routines during their stay.
